FAMILY THERAPY

All happy families are made from a conscious effort to adjust to the ongoing shifts that come with being a family and all the experiences that come along with being part of something bigger than yourself. While it's not always easy, most of us still prefer the struggles of getting along over the satisfaction of getting our way. Learning to negotiate these challenges comes with time and experience, but sometimes guidance or perspective is needed to help a family shift toward productive and meaningful solutions.

One thing that is important to know is that family therapy can be fun. Especially when children are involved. Children can often add a perspective that we, as adults, have not considered.

It does not need to be long and drawn out. In fact, family therapy often is short-term, sometimes just a few sessions. We can generally get to solutions pretty quickly and painlessly. As a family therapist, I'm there to guide you through the process of developing new ways of adapting to or managing a change in the family circumstance. Whenever possible, it's great to get all the members of the household together for an initial session.

It's important to remember that licensed marriage and family therapists get specific training in working with families. It requires a different range of knowledge and therapeutic skills to really understand how to be helpful to a family. Too many adults have bad memories of family therapy when they were children. My goal is to change that and make family therapy a place where families can improve their lives and their relationships.
